Just before 15:30 hours today, E201 and EK 204 were dispatched for a reported gas leak. While units were responding, ECC upgraded the incident to a medium tank fire.

Upon arrival, the crew from E201 metered the residence and found no hazardous readings inside the home. During their investigation, firefighters located a large propane tank in the backyard. Further assessment revealed that the tank's pressure relief valve was venting propane vapors.

As a precaution, the Engine 201 crew deployed a 1¾-inch crosslay to provide a protection line while crews evaluated the situation.

Command requested the response of Hazmat 33. After arriving on scene, the Hazmat Team conducted a pressure assessment of the propane tank and determined the internal pressure exceeded safe operating limits. To safely reduce the pressure, the team established controlled flare operations to vent the excess propane.

Once the tank reached a safe operating pressure, flare operations were discontinued. The incident was then placed under control, and all units cleared the scene and returned to service.
